The Russian FA has disgraced itself!

Our midfielder Valya Savchenkova has returned to us from national team duty with an injury she sustained last week. I am very disappointed with the way the Russian Football Union handled Savchenkova’s injury.
The Russian Federation, for unknown reasons, has decided to keep Savchenkova’s injury secret from us. She came back to Zvezda, the next day [...]

My unsolicited advice to American players wanting to play in Europe

With more and more American female players making Europe their destination I have heard of and have seen some troubling situations when it comes to agreements and understandings. As women’s football in Europe grows, bigger resources are available. Yet, in many countries American players are stereotyped as cheap, eager, naive and willing to take any [...]

Igor Shalimov and Ukraine FA

Two things today.
Ukraine traveled to Bosnia-Herzegovina and comfortably beat the hosts 5:0. Dasha Apamaschenko scored twice and Vera Djatel added one goal for Ukraine which sits third in Group 4. To say that this match was difficult for Anatoliy Kutsev’s team would be exaggeration.
I believe it was irresponsible to play both for nearly 90 minutes [...]

International break

Petra Hogewoning
Not such a good week as a defeat to Izmailovo mean we head into the international break wondering what could have been.
The game against Izmailovo was quite simply ‘one of those days’. We did everything but score, and their keeper has had one of those inspired games.
That said we acknowledge it’s [...]

“Because soccer sucks 2″

Today John Lewandowski of PAwatercooler wrote this in a response to my post:
“The World Cup is every 4 years. That means that the American women won the third most recent World Cup. Yep, it was 11 years ago, and nobody in the US cared, because soccer is a game for teenage [...]

“Because soccer sucks”

Yet another well informed American blogger elects to enrich us with his opinion about women’s football.
On his site, John Lewandowski writes on 14 June,, 2010:
“the American women’s soccer team recently won the World Cup, but nobody cared. Why not? Because soccer sucks.”
With that statement alone Mr. Lewandowski brutally assassinated his own credibility.
John, [...]

Izmailovo 1:0 Zvezda-2005

We lost in Moscow 1:0. It was a match of strange events but that’s for another time.

ESPN exploiting human tragedy

Oh how ESPN viewers’ habits and interests have changed.
In 2008 FC Indiana had two South African players, Lena Mosebo and Veronica Phewa, on its roster. Both were members of South Africa WNT and close friends of Eudy Simelane, 31, who was murdered by five men on April 27th, 2008 in Kwatema, east of Johannesburg, South [...]

Zvezda-2005 4:0 Kubanochka

Olesya Kurochkina, Vera Djatel (2) and Fatima Leyva scored for us today as we defeated Kubanochka 4:0 to improve to 8-3 on the season.

Zvezda-2005 2:3 Rossiyanka

Olesya Kurochkina (r)
Tough 2:3 loss at home to league leaders Rossiyanka. Three individual errors were swiftly punished by very efficient Rossiyanka and their captain Skotnikova who scored a hattrick (17′, 36′, 59′).
We missed a glorious opportunity in the second minute when Daria Apanaschenko missed from 10 meters out.
Down 1:2 at half we played very direct, [...]
